Zimbabwe Warriors head coach Michael Nees has expressed optimism ahead of the World Cup qualifier against Nigeria, describing the game as an exciting encounter that could see his team unsettle one of Africa’s football powerhouses.
Nees, who recently released his squad list for the upcoming fixtures, acknowledged Nigeria’s storied football history and the quality of its players. However, he also highlighted the current struggles of the Super Eagles, noting that a change of coach has introduced a new, more focused approach.

“It will be an exciting game because our positions are very close – we’re just one point behind. Nigeria’s team, if they really want to turn their campaign around, must perform consistently and secure every point,” Nees said.
He added, “I have immense respect for the Nigerian team. They have great players and a rich football history, yet given their current struggles and the pressure they’re under, they can be vulnerable. With a new coach who is very quiet, focused, and has brought changes to the bench, we believe there is a real chance for us to spring a surprise.”
Nees concluded by emphasizing his team’s determination: “We will plan carefully, execute our strategy with honesty and give everything on the pitch. I believe in our team and our players, and while we respect our opponents, we are ready to rise to the challenge.”
As both teams prepare to vie for crucial points in the World Cup qualifiers, the stage is set for a tightly contested match that could shift the momentum in Group C.
