Zimbabwe’s England-based Star Andy Rinomhota Reveals One Thing His Team Will Not Do Against Super Eagles

Rotherham United of England midfielder, Andrew Farai (Andy) Rinomhota has revealed that he and his colleagues in Zimbabwe’s national team will not overrate the Super Eagles during Tuesday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Uyo.

Sports247 reports that, while Rinomhota, who previously played for Reading in the English Championship and is currently on loan from Cardiff City, admitted that the Super Eagles’ team is loaded with top stars, he believes The Warriors can shock them in Uyo.

He buttressed his optimism with memories of his debut for Zimbabwe on November 19, 2023, when he helped them eke out a 1-1 draw with the Nigerians in a ‘home’ fixture that was played in Kigali, Rwanda because Zimbabwe do not have a FIFA-approved arena in their country.

Rinomhota reckoned that getting a famous draw during his debut, against the star-studded Nigerians on neutral ground, and with a hastily assembled team, gives him enough confidence that they will go one step better, as The Warriors are now in a stabilised state.

He remarked, “The game is very open, and we are optimistic. We believe we can go and get a result. We got a result against them in the first round, albeit in our home environment. That was in Rwanda, and it was my first game for the national team.

“It was straight into the test for me. But, even with me coming into a new environment and in that situation, we got a 1-1 draw. We could have even won that game. So, we are looking to do the same on their soil.”

The 27-year-old schemer, who was born in England but has now played seven senior matches for Zimbabwe, admitted that Tuesday’s game at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo will not be a stroll in the park, yet stressed that The Warriors are determined to leave the Akwa Ibom State capital with their heads held high.

“We come here with confidence and we want to see what we can do. We give them respect, ’cause we know they have good players in their team; but we are not overestimating them.

“We will not give their team too much respect or allow them to impose themselves on us in the game. We’ve come here to try and get a result so that we can keep pushing on towards our goal,” Rinomhota reiterated.
