Luton Town of England defensive midfielder, Marvellous Nakamba is firing up his Zimbabwean colleagues ahead of their 2026 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria’s Super Eagles, saying they need to believe they will win their upcoming clash.
Sports247 reports that, with both sides set to lock horns on March 25th at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nakamba admitted it will be a tough encounter, but insisted that Zimbabwe have a strong chance of causing an upset.
Nakamba, who got his leap into professional football while playing for Bantu Rovers in Zimbabwe, then went on to star for Nancy of France, Vitesse of Netherlands, Club Brugge of Belgium and Aston Villa of England, pointed out that unity, self-belief and joint-encouragement will see them through against the star-studded Nigerian squad.
He declared, “We keep on going, and we believe in ourselves. We are just looking forward to how we are going into the next match, and we have to stick together. As players, we encourage each other.”
He also spoke about home support that helped them pull off a 1-1 draw with the Eagles during the first leg in Harare, hence his conviction that prayers from their fans would also go a long way in boosting their chances of shocking the Nigerians in Uyo.
Marvellous Nakamba added, “With support that we have from fans back home in Zimbabwe, we just want to say thank you, and we will keep on going. I think we still have a chance to make it as a team. We just need to push each other more and demand more from each other. It will happen.”
The battling schemer, who was born in 1994, concluded with a view that his country can achieve victory in The Nest of Champions and even revive their World Cup qualification chances; especially if the players continue staying close-knit like a well-bonded family.
“I was impressed with everyone who was in camp, whether they play locally or abroad. The unity was there, and everyone was encouraging each other. I just want to say to them, ‘Keep on believing. No matter what, God is in control of your life. If you believe in what you are good at, don’t change.’ Keep on doing that, train on it everyday, never give up and just believe,” Nakamba philosophised.
