Although The Warriors sit last on the group’s qualification table, the German football tactician pointed out that they are just one point behind fifth placed Nigeria, hence his belief that they can pull off a surprise result at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
He further argued that both countries being in precarious situations in the group makes their March 26th clash is potentially explosive.
Michael Nees expatiated, “We lost our last game, so we are now like wounded lions. Everyone knows the Nigerian players, and the team is actually better than their current position.”
He noted further that both teams are in similar danger of failing to qualify for next year’s World Cup, but reckoned that two previous draws at home by Nigeria, against Lesotho and South Africa, as well as away to The Warriors, plus a loss to Benin Republic in Abidjan, put the Super Eagles in a precarious position that Zimbabwe can take advantage of.
“We are both back against the wall, but we want to play an exciting game in Uyo. Our positions are similar, though we are a point less than Nigeria. That will make the match more exciting. Both teams really want to turn the page in this qualification race. So, we have to perform and collect points,” Nees acceded.
