Nigerian weightlifter Lucky Joseph shared his joy and gratitude after a successful outing at the 13th All-African Games in Accra, Ghana.
Joseph, who won three silver medals in the snatch, clean and jerk, and overall point categories, also secured a ticket to represent Nigeria and Africa at the upcoming Olympics in Paris, Sports247 reports.
“I just thank God because today’s competition, I don’t even expect to reach this level. But with the support of my teammates, to the glory of God, I just thank everyone who supports me, most especially the weightlifting president.
May almighty God bless me. It wasn’t for that man. I don’t think I would be here. So that’s why I just thank God,” Joseph stated, expressing his gratitude for the support he received.
When asked about his mindset during the competition, Joseph revealed a calm and focused approach. “No, nothing. Because I’ve done more than that before. So I feel just like normal thing I used to do. So it’s my business. So there’s nothing coming out of my mind. I just do it,” he said, highlighting his confidence and experience.
Joseph also acknowledged the strong competition from other countries, particularly Egypt and Cameroon.
“For me, I try because if you look at the size of the Egyptian, this is just like two times of me. And for me to come to this level, I really try for myself,” he said, demonstrating his determination to succeed despite the challenges.
As the All-African Games continue, athletes like Lucky Joseph are not only winning medals but also inspiring others with their dedication, resilience, and spirit of sportsmanship.
Their stories remind us that sports is not just about winning, but also about personal growth, teamwork, and the joy of competition.
