Following a challenging defeat in the All-African Games semifinal match against Ghana, Coach Mbayang Thiam of the Senegalese Women’s team expressed his disappointment in a post-match media interview. The Senegalese team succumbed to a 3-1 loss against Ghana in a hard-fought encounter on Monday.
Thiam acknowledged the strength of the Ghanaian team but emphasized the competitive start of the game, stating, “This game was the toughest so far. We came into the game. The girls were doing so well at the beginning of the game. We started very well, we started at par with the Ghanaian team.”
Despite the promising start, Thiam highlighted critical mistakes made by the team that contributed to the loss. “Mistakes came up, three mistakes. The first goal came in and then again the second one came. The girls were disappointed,” he lamented.
Senegal attempted to rally back into the game after conceding two goals, managing to score one themselves. However, the momentum was short-lived as Ghana struck again, sealing their victory with a third goal.
Thiam commended the team’s efforts, acknowledging their resilience in the face of a tough opponent. “We went to the break with a 2-0. Came back, and tried to come back in the game with strength and equalized one. We didn’t even have time to digest it and the third goal came,” he explained.
Despite the disappointment of the loss, Thiam found positives in the team’s performance, describing the match as “one of the best.” The Senegalese team displayed determination and competitiveness throughout the game, showcasing their talent on the continental stage.
With the defeat, Senegal’s journey continues as they play for third place,and Thiam remains proud of his team’s efforts and is optimistic about their future.
