Robert Rose, the President of the African Weightlifting Association, has commended Africa’s performance at the ongoing African Games.
Rose highlighted the importance of the Games for athletes aiming to earn points for the Olympics, stating that points earned at the African Games and final qualifiers in Thailand would secure an Olympic ticket.
Rose expressed optimism about Nigeria’s performance, believing that it has earned them sufficient points to compete in Thailand and qualify for the Olympics. “This also is a qualifying event as well. It is they will get points and then the last one will be Thailand before the Paris 2024 Games Olympic,” he said.
He further noted that the gold medalists from the African Games would be among those competing in the Olympic Games in Thailand. “Yes, there will be as you can see because all those gold medalists will be among the ones going to the Olympic games, in Thailand as well. It is a point system to be in the Olympics,” Rose added.
This statement underscores the significance of the African Games in the journey to the Olympics and highlights the promising prospects of African weightlifters on the global stage.
