As the curtains draw on the highly anticipated Zadok National Scrabble Championship in Edo State, the chase for the prestigious Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF) Green Jacket has reached a fever pitch, Sports247 reports.
Africa’s top-rated player, Doko Oluwatimilehin, has found himself off the pace heading into the final day, as the competition intensifies among Nigeria’s elite wordsmiths.

Leading the race are George Ezinore, Larry Etuwa, Dipo Akanbi, and John Aiyedun , all seasoned competitors with notable achievements.
Ezinore recently finished second at the Kigali international, Etuwa claimed victory at the Dexdee Special Retreat, Akanbi is a former Green Jacket holder, and Aiyedun is the reigning 2024 South-South champion.
Close behind is a chasing pack that includes Samuel Adebola, Abdulmumin Jimoh, Victor Osawe, Friday Ogbonyomi, Peter Ebomah, Sunday Oshodi, Dokun Esan, and Cyril Umebiye all fighting to make their final games count.
Head coach of the national scrabble team, Prince Anthony Ikolo, praised the level of competition, describing the tournament as “very competitive.” According to him, the top Masters players are “delivering the right words” to stay in contention for the coveted NSF Green Jacket.
Meanwhile, the team title has boiled down to a three-horse race between defending champions Lagos State, hosts Edo State, and Ogun State.
The Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State are still within striking distance, while Oyo State trails at the bottom of the table.
As the championship concludes, all eyes remain on the board as champions emerge and legends are made.
