Yusuf Alli ‘Sells’ Lagos Marathon In Accra

Ex-international athlete and coordinator of Access Bank Lagos City Marathon was on Sunday in Accra, Ghana for an international race, and used the opportunity to showcase the Nigerian version to participants.

Alli said the Accra International Marathon, which started over a decade ago, has impacted positively on Ghana’s image internationally, hence his decision to ‘sell’ the Lagos version at the gathering.

Alli was joined by head of media and publicity, Olukayode Thomas, as well as two event department staff were in Accra to assist organisers and seek areas of collaborations and partnership between events.

Alli added that Accra International Marathon is one of the oldest races in the West Coast and a big example to roll alongside Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, which is now the biggest one-day event in Africa.

He said the Lagos City Marathon team set up a stand at the finish in Accra, where forms for the fourth edition of the race slated for February 2, 2019 were distributed.

Alli said: “In terms of numbers, elite field, prize money, and being an IAAF label race, the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon is bigger than Accra International Marathon, but there is still a lot that we can learn from them.

“For example, we have only two races (10km and full Marathon), while they have five races in one.

“We studied their finish area, their start and other areas to see how we can use the experience gained to improve our race.

“Also, souvenirs like Access Bank Lagos City Marathon t-shirts, brochures, CDs, Goody bags, distributed free.”
