Football players from various parts of Lagos, were at the Agege stadium today for the open trials organized by smart city management.
The event which will last for three days, saw more than 150 players in attendance on the first 2days, battling it out for a shirt in Smart city.
The opening day of the trial lived up to expectations as some players who were able to showcase their talents have gotten green light for the next stage of the trials, which ends at the soccer temple, Agege stadium.
Speaking on the programme, team manager of smart city, Alhaji Kalmaldeen, said, city is a unique team and they put in their best to get the best.
“This trial is an avenue to see some few good players, that can fit into the team, we have very good players in our team right now, but some are out of the country and a few others are getting offers from clubs in the country, so we need to get some new players to fill in for those players going for greener pastures,” he said
Meanwhile, the technical director of the team, Lookman Oshun, said, he is pleased with what he saw on the first day of the trials and that by the final stages, they will be able to get a few good players from the screening exercise.
“It’s really great to put this kind of trial in place, it will enable some of these young players who don’t have means of showing their talents, to be able to express themselves and show the world what they can do” he added.
Coach of the team, Fela Tom Dollar, added that city is a team every young player wants to play for, because it’s one the best academy in the country and in Africa too.
“Smart city is a remarkable club every young player wants to join, am not surprised at the turnout here today, I know tomorrow will be more than this figure, we hope to get the best to add to the wonderful Players we have in our fold”
“I thank the management of smart city for putting this programme together because it’s a means of taking some of these boys of the streets and make them better people” he concluded.
