Chidera Prosper, representing Anambra State in the shot put at the 7th National Youth Games in Asaba, shares his exciting journey despite finishing in the 6th position.
Chidera believes his performance was hindered by the age and experience gap between him and his competitors.
“The person who took first place had 17 points, the second had 12 points, and I earned just 10 points. I was the smallest among them all, at 15 years old, while all my competitors were older than 15.
The first-place winner might have been up to 17 years old. Just looking at their stature, you could tell they were no longer in the U-15 category,” Chidera candidly revealed to Sports247.
Despite the age disparity, Chidera remains satisfied with his 6th-place finish, recognizing the importance of the experience gained. He is determined to use this competition as a stepping stone to improve and surpass his current records in the future.
The valuable lesson Chidera takes home is one of resilience and continuous improvement. He emphasizes the importance of not giving up but rather returning home to work harder, striving to break existing records.
