Former Super Eagles goal keeper and goal keeper coach, Ike Shorunmu has disclosed that ex-internationals need back up to survive when out of football jobs.
Ike Shorunmu had an active career between 1990 and 2006 playing for clubs like Shooting Stars, FC Basel, Besiktas, FC Zurich and the national team.
Shorunmu who was a Saturday night guest on sport WhatsApp platform, Family United by Football, FUBF said he can not afford to beg for daily bread.
“(I involve) in both football and other things, because when football does not go in a good way, you find something to survive. My first (option) is football coaching, but I have to have a back up to survive myself and my family.
“If football (job) comes, I will do it, if not I will still be myself. I cannot be going round to beg someone to help me survive.” He stated.
After retiring from active football, Shorunmu went into coaching which has seen him train goal keepers for the national team, Enyimba FC of Aba and Heartland FC of Owerri.
