Nigeria’s Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, has showered praise on Onyinyechi Mark after her historic victory at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.
Competing in the women’s up to 61kg Para-Powerlifting category, Mark not only secured Nigeria’s first gold medal of the Games but also shattered her own world record twice, with an astonishing lift of 150kg.

Mark initially broke her previous world record by lifting 147kg, a feat that guaranteed her the gold medal. However, in a stunning display of strength and determination, she returned to the stage to raise the bar further, lifting 150kg to set a new world record.
This remarkable performance solidified her dominance in the sport and broke the Paralympic record previously held by Nigeria’s Lucy Ejike.
In his congratulatory message, Senator Owan Enoh expressed his deep admiration for Mark’s achievement. “This performance is nothing short of phenomenal. Today, you hoisted the flag of our great nation at the ongoing Paralympics, having won Nigeria’s first Olympic Gold medal at the Games.
Not only did you lift 147kg to break the Paralympics record and win a Gold Medal, you took a challenge given to you, lifted 150kg to set a new world record,” he stated.
Enoh continued, “You have brought immense pride and joy to Nigerians. You have built a momentum which makes a worthy statement of the resilient Nigerian spirit. We are so proud of you.

Mark’s record-breaking lifts have earned her a place in history, having now set three consecutive world records—146kg, 147kg, and 150kg—in the event.
