Nigerian Ex-international, Sunny Kingsley, founder of Sports Kindergarten International (SKI), was at the helm of happenings recently as his organisation showcased one of its initiative in Agidingbi, Lagos, reports Sports247.
Very young boys were seen to be playing a very organised football match with match officials and good officiating but however, without a coach. Founder of SKI, Sunny Kingsley spoke to Sports247 after the event on the initiative.
“It’s one of our projects at SEKA, we look for kids with their real age, we search the streets, especially kids who don’t have anybody to support them,” he said. “That program in Agidingbi had to do with kids on the street, they do mechanic work, they approached me to give them a chance and I decided to organise something official, what we see on TV,” said Sunny.
He explained that coaching and shouting sometimes take out the confidence in young players but it wasn’t the case on that day as they played without coaching and there were smiling faces all around while also achieving the mission for the project.
“We had two Iniesta, small, 12 years old real age, skinny but football minded kids and some others. I’ve dedicated myself to go be their coach for one or two days to support their coaches and academy as we would not take them out but help them grow there,” he said.
He explained that on the 21st & 22nd of this month, SKI will be having a program in Agege for academies and grassroots sports sides to teach them how to bring their ideas to life, enlightening their coaches and thereby improving the players. Top academies in Lagos and also Port-Harcourt will be at the event, also clubs like 36Lions and a few others will be in attendance.
“We will show them that they need to come together, not compete for the players but compete to develop the players. We will show them that you don’t need to be enemies, you have to be friends and this is the network we’re trying to build over Nigeria.
This is an event that SKI has organised in Ondo state, Port-Harcourt, and now the first of it in Lagos.
