Yet To Be Named Super Eagles Coach To Lead Super Eagles To 2024 CHAN

Nigeria Football Federation President, Ibrahim Gusau has confirmed a new Super Eagles coach will be named on time to lead the Super Eagles B to the 2024 CHAN tournament, Sports247 reports.

In an exclusive interview with the Nigeria Football Federation media on Tuesday in Abuja, Ibrahim made this known.

The Nigeria football supremo confirmed that the Nigeria Football Federation technical committee interviewed coaches for the vacant Super Eagles job last Wednesday and the board is yet to receive their recommendation as the board will only work with their recommendations and come up with a decision.

The soft spoken sports administrator emphasised that the coach will be Ned on time enough to take charge of the Super Eagles B team to the African Championship of Nations otherwise known as the CHAN which is due to take place in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from February 1, 2025.

“The technical committee discussed this matter Thursday and we are waiting for their report. We will look at the recommendation of the committee as a board and make the necessary approval,” Gusau disclosed.

Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau speak further on who takes charge of the CHAN Eagles despite the fact the team is currently in camp with Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu lead the team.

Gusau said : “We have come out with the policy that whoever we employ as the Super Eagles will also be the one to manage the affairs of the CHAN Eagles,” Gusau said in an interview.

“We want players from the domestic league to be injected into the Super Eagles and there is no way a coach will tell us he could find any one of the home based good enough to be injected into the Super Eagles after the CHAN competition ”

He then gave assurance on how soon the new Super Eagles Coach will be unveiled .
“very, very soon” the new foreign coach for the Super Eagles will be appointed.

The Super Eagles are without a substantial coach since Jose Peseiro resigned after winning the silver medal at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’ivoire.

Austin Eguavoen, the NFF Technical director acted in an interim capacity during the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers after he took over from coach Finidi George after two matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June 2024.
