Yakubu Aiyegbeni Confident in Super Eagles’ World Cup Qualification Chances

Former Nigeria and Middlesbrough striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has expressed confidence in the ability of the Super Eagles to overcome their slow start and secure a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He believes that the quality within the squad is sufficient to turn their fortunes around if the players can replicate their club performances on the international stage.

“We have so many good players in the team doing well in Europe,” Yakubu said. “If they can transform that form from their clubs into the national team, we have a strong chance. It won’t be easy, but with the experience in the squad, they can do well.”

Despite his optimism, the former striker warned that other countries have stepped up their game and will be eager to challenge Nigeria. “There are no easy matches anymore. Many African players now play in Europe, and when they face Nigeria, they want to prove themselves. For them, beating Nigeria is a big achievement and will always make headlines,” he added.

Yakubu emphasized the importance of preparation and determination ahead of the crucial qualifiers in March. “We have to be ready. If we don’t give our best, we could be beaten. But if we give everything, we can win these matches,” he concluded.

With the Super Eagles looking to recover from their early struggles in the qualifiers, all eyes will be on the team to see if they can live up to the expectations and secure their place in the tournament.
