Team Nigeria’s coach to the 2019 Germany Wrestling Grand Prix, Purity Akuh has expressed satisfaction with the contingent’s performance.
Although only Commonwealth god medalist, Odunayo Adekuoroye could pick a gold medal during the competition, sports247.ng can report that Akuh is excited with the exposure the grapplers got.
Akuh has also disclosed that the team will stay over to participate in an upcoming training programme, which he says will add more to their level of competition and technical quality.
He acknowledged that Adekuoroye was Nigeria’s top performer with gold medal in the 57kg women’s freestyle, while Blessing Oborududu settled for bronze in 68kg, but Aminat Adeniyi was unlucky against an opponent from Canada.
Akuh said he was happy with the performance of the athletes against top quality of opponents that they confronted during the competition.
The grapplers’ coach added: “For me this is a good tournament for the athletes because they competed against some of the world’s best.
“It was a good test for them as well after months of inactiveness for them on bigger stage like this.
“Regardless of the outcome, I am excited that they were able to show their qualities against strong oppositions.
“This I believe will boost their confidence and also help them to size up some of the potential opponents at the Olympic Games.”
