Nigeria Tuesday evening in Lagos qualified to join nine other countries for the final play-offs for the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be held in Qatar.
The Super Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw by the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde in a pulsating and tension-soaked encounter that had the apprehensive crowd on the edges of their seats.
Speaking with journalists after the game, a great football enthusiast and patron of many All-Stars football clubs in Lagos, Dr. Michael Ubogu expressed his happiness on the qualification of the Super Eagles to the playoffs for Qatar.
” Like all patriotic Nigerians, I’m glad that our boys have qualified for the next stage, which is the playoffs. It wasn’t easy. Previous matches against the likes of Sierra-Leone, Liberia, CAR, and now Cape Verde has shown that there are no longer minnows in football,” Ubogu, remarked.
Speaking further, the maritime magnate and sports philanthropist was quick to add that having overcome these tricky fixtures, the Super Eagles would be up and ready to face whichever opposition and qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.
On his part, Rev.(Amb). Samuel Ikpea, national chairman of Nigeria football supporters club, who led his band to drum ceaseless support for the Super Eagles, was equally grateful to God for seeing Nigeria successfully navigate through what he described as ‘land of dynamites’.
” It wasn’t easy, I must confess. Every team playing against Nigeria would always come with lots of grits and determination to beat us. Thank God, our boys were able to weather the storm.
“Going forward, I believe our boys would be ready for any opposition to pick a ticket to Qatar. I tell you, the bigger they come, the harder, they shall fall,” Ikpea said confidently.
