The Super Eagles of Nigeria was able to retain their first position beating the Central African Republic 2-0 in Douala, and go top of Group C of the FIFA World Cup, Qatar 2022 qualifiers on Sunday.
Recall that Nigeria had lost their first leg of the encounter 0-1 in front of the home fans at the Teslim Balogun stadium Lagos state Losing to CAR last week Thursday.
In Douala, Cameroon, Nigeria scored twice in the opening half at Japoma Stadium to cement their Group C top spot, beating hosts the Central African Republic 2-0.
” It was a good reaction of my team losing the other day in the last minutes but everybody wanted revenge which they did very well,” Rohr said after the game.
“We would have scored a third or fourth goal, we changed the system playing three from the back and with the leadership of Musa to win the game, and it wasn’t easy beating the CAR because they made a lot of fouls but fortunately we didn’t have big injuries.” He added.
Gernot Rohr also thanks all the fans watching the match from home assuring them they will never give up.
“We would be preparing for CAF by November and we hope everything will be fine at the end of the day”. Rohr concluded.
Nigeria now leads the group with nine-point from four games hoping they qualify for the knockout and final phase of the qualification for Qatar 2022.
