Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has apologised to Nigerians for the Super Eagles inability to secure a ticket to the finals Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup coming up later in November, Sports247 Nigeria can report.
Nigeria failed to qualify for the biggest football competition in the world after losing to West African arch rival, the Black Stars of Ghana in a two-legged match dubbed the ‘Jollof Derby’ on away goal rule in the final qualification playoff for the World Cup.
Super Eagles played a goalless draw against the Black Stars in the first leg of the encounter in Kumasi before being forced to a 1-1 in the return leg at the MKO Abiola stadium in Abuja. The outcome that cost Nigeria a spot at the world football biggest stage and many football lovers across the nation were not pleased with the result.
As quoted by Goal.com, Victor Osimhen disclosed that it is sad for him and his other teammates that Nigeria wouldn’t be in Qatar for the World Cup and went ahead to apologize to Nigerians for the shortcomings.
“Sometimes in football, it’s like this. First, as the Ghanaians had the ambition to go to the World Cup, we wanted to go there, too.
“But not qualifying has happened. We need to first say sorry to Nigerians. A lot of people still support us but what we need to do is to try to get all our supporters back 100%. We are on the right path, doing things well with the new coach Peseiro and technical staff,” he said.
