The president of World Boxing Federation (WBF), Boris van der Vorst says he would love to see Nigeria host a number of international courses, camps and developmental programmes, but stressed that it depends on commitment from the country’s sports officials.
Sports247 reports that Van der Vorst’s words came at the end of his two-day visit to Abuja, during which he addressed a conference of egg heads in various sections of Nigeria’s Olympic Games events.
However, while acknowledging that it was a fruitful visit that was boosted by several productive interactions, Van der Vorst stressed that a lot still has to be done to get global events staged in the country, tops of which he explained should be proper planning and adequate funding.
“I think Nigeria can have more leading positions in organising international training camps and courses. For me, it’s really important that we support sports with funding but, most of all, there needs to be real good purpose from the federations’ budgets about how they want to organise such events in Nigeria,” Van der Vorst stated
