World Athletics has clarified that recent reports in Nigerian media suggesting that Tobi Amusan, the reigning World 100m hurdles champion and record holder, has been granted permission to defend her title at the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, are inaccurate.

Nicole Jeffery, the Head of Communications at World Athletics, addressed this matter through an email message directed at accredited journalists preparing to cover the 19th Championships, set to commence this weekend.
Jeffery emphasized that the reports claiming Tobi Amusan’s clearance for participation in Budapest are unfounded.
She explicitly stated, “No decision has been made in this case yet. When a decision is made, it will be announced by the Athletics Integrity Unit.”
World Athletics included Amusan’s name in the official entry list for the Budapest Championships, which was published last week.
However, her participation status was qualified, contingent upon the resolution of the whereabouts failure charge brought against her by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).
The AIU, responsible for ensuring the integrity of athletics by managing and enforcing anti-doping regulations, issued a statement indicating that a decision regarding Amusan’s case would be reached prior to the commencement of the World Championships, scheduled to start on August 19.
Amusan, a 26-year-old Nigerian athlete, holds the distinction of being the reigning World 100m hurdles champion and also holds the record in the event.
Her name in the entry list had raised questions about her eligibility to compete, but World Athletics’ clarification underscores that the final decision remains pending until an official announcement is made by the Athletics Integrity Unit.
