World Athletics has announced the official format for the newly introduced Mixed 4x100m Relay, confirming that teams will run in the order woman-woman-man-man when the event debuts at the World Relays Guangzhou 2025.
This new addition to global track and field competitions will be reviewed after its inaugural outing, with records for the event officially recognized from January 1, 2026.

To establish the first world record, a team must surpass the fastest time recorded by the end of 2025.
The event is also set to feature at the highly anticipated World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest 2026.
In another major development, World Athletics has officially included the 300m hurdles as a recognized event. It will now count towards world rankings, much like the 400m hurdles, and a list of world best performances will be maintained.
However, World Athletics has stated that conditions for setting an inaugural world record in the 300m hurdles will be determined once the event gains more global participation.
These changes reflect the governing body’s commitment to expanding the sport, increasing inclusivity, and introducing fresh competitive opportunities for athletes worldwide.
