Flying Eagles striker and Team Lagos attacker, Wisdom Onyedikachi has blamed hard luck for his team’s disastrous outing at the WAFU B U20 Championship in the Benin Republic.
The Flying Eagles led by Coach Ladan Bosso had a disastrous and poor outing at the tournament in the Benin Republic, as they were bundled out of the group stages of the WAFU tournament, after failing to win a single match, drawing one and losing the other, which as a result will ensure Nigeria’s nonparticipation at the CAF U20 AFCON.
The U20 team of Nigeria was largely criticized for the poor performance in Benin, and Wisdom Onyedikachi has blamed hard luck for his side’s disappointing outing.
In a chat with Sports247, when being asked the reason for the team’s failure to go beyond the group stages of the WAFU B U20 tournament in Benin, the striker expressed his disappointments, as he blamed lack of luck for not being able to score goals on the part of his team, as being the major factor behind their early exit from the competition and all teams were very prepared for the tournament as well.
“It was indeed a very tough one for us indeed because all the team that came for the WAFU tournament were well prepared. We were just unlucky in front of goal, which really cost us in the tournament”.
“That’s football, you either win, draw or lose”.
While still speaking, when being asked about how he feels having represented his country in an international footballing tournament, the striker was expressed his delight and happiness, as well as admitted that he still needs to work harder for more call-ups and greater heights.
“It is a good thing for me as a football player. My coach used to tell me, ‘where you have been to, so many people have been there before and returned, so you shouldn’t allow it to get into your head’. So I still have to work harder to get to greater heights”, he admitted.
Wisdom Onyedikachi will hope to lead the line in attack for the Lagos State football team as they battle for Gold at the upcoming National Sports Festival in Benin, come February.
