As more and more teams react to the draws of the Winners Golden Bet Lagos State FA Cup, one of the oldest Lagos State clubs that still finds a way to remain relevant and stay competitive throughout the season has told fans not to expect too much from them as they are rebuilding.
Sodiq Dabiri, assistant coach of First Bank FC in an interview with Sports247, commended the return of the State FA cup while also explaining that the loss of many of their players after the regular season meant this is a period to rebuild for the club.
“The FA Cup is going to be interesting, teams are preparing for the new season and we just want to participate and see what happens,” Sodiq said.
“Our fans should not expect much because we’re rebuilding. We just concluded the season and some of our players have left so we’re looking for players to fortify the team with now,” he added.
Sodiq Dabiri also dropped a word of advice for players and coaches alike as the new season edges closer. “They (players) need to be up and doing. Young players of 17,18,19 should be prepared and really know what they want as they must work hard to get there,” he said.
“The management has been in it for some years now and I can say they tried, it’s not easy to get the money as there are many companies out there who have refused to get involved with this. Kudos to the organizers,” he concluded.
