Wilfred Ndidi has suffered yet another injury setback and will miss Nigeria’s friendly against Algeria. The Leicester City midfielder has left the Super Eagles training camp in Constantine, Algeria, and has now returned to England for further diagnosis.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced this on their Twitter account on Thursday morning. The statement reads:
“Wilfred Ndidi is injured and out of the game against Algeria. He has left the team’s camp and returned to England. Get well soon Wilfred.”
Ndidi last played for Nigeria in January of this year, when Nigeria lost to Tunisia in the round of 16 of the 2021 AFCON. The 25-year-old missed the Super Eagles’ 2022 World Cup playoffs against the Black Stars of Ghana in March after sustaining an injury while playing for Leicester City.
He also missed Nigeria’s first two 2023 AFCON qualifiers in June, against Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe.
Ndidi’s withdrawal is yet another setback for Jose Peseiro ahead of the match against Algeria’s Desert Foxes. He is the most recent invited player to withdraw due to injury, following Ahmed Musa (Sivasspor), Samuel Chukwueze (Villarreal), Leon Balogun (Queens Park Rangers), and Henry Onyekuru (Demirspor).
