The NWFL Championship play-off came to an end Friday evening with home side Lakeside FC and Dannaz FC picking the two tickets at stake for elevation into the Nigeria Women Football Premier League.
Starting the game knowing that a victory of any colouration over Dream Stars Ladies will guarantee a Premier League ticket, Dannaz FC of Lagos wasted no time in racing to a 2 goal half time lead to the consternation of Ekiti Queens, the only other team with the prospect of seizing the ticket in Group A.
Dannaz FC wasted no time in making it 3-0 while Dream Stars FC could only muster a consolation goal before the referee blew off the game. Wild scenes were recorded shortly after as the technical bench and players ran into the field to jubilate with the rest of the squad with 36 Lions CEO, Liameed Olawale Gafar joining in the celebrations. The recently elected Lagos FA Vice- Chairman had arrived Ikenne to cheer the team to victory.
In Group B, Lakeside Queens also knew before the start of the game that they must win by no less than a 2 goal margin to secure the promotion ticket but they were over powered by nerves as the game became 1-1 before they regained the lead 2-1 over Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens at half time.
The Ikenne based side were more decisive in the 2nd half as they scored 2 more goals to wrap up the evening with a 4-1 victory. That was bad news for Sunshine Queens because the result meant that the Akure team would be spending another year in the championship.
Lakeside Queens and Dannaz Ladies, welcome to the Premier League of Nigerian Football.
