Still basking in the euphoria of their stunning 1-0 victory over host Rivers United in the opening game last Friday, Lobi Stars are set to confront Akwa United as they target another three points in the potentially explosive match billed for Sharks Stadium in Port- Harcourt on Sunday, November 8 at 4 pm.
It will be recalled that Akwa United on their part recorded a massive win in their opening game as they made mincemeat of Cynosure FC in the 3-1 victory on Saturday to underscore their credentials as strong contenders for the trophy at stake.
With both teams on 3 points, the winner of Sunday’s encounter will surely take the lead on the Group A table.
Although Akwa United presently sits atop the table on superior goal difference, on a scale of balance, one will be tempted to give it to Lobi Stars who cleanly carted home victory over Rivers United, a side that is clearly more illustrious than Akwa United’s opponent’s Cynosure FC.
Without a doubt, Lobi Stars’ victory over a strong opponent like Rivers United is a strong indication that the Pride of Benue are a moving train that is ready and willing to not only push aside but crush anything in its way.
Speaking to Lobi Stars media, Coach Kabiru Dogo exhibited a high level of confidence in his team as he said “Our aim of taking part in the tournament is to test the players and prepare for the league but because much is expected of Lobi Stars and myself, I will not leave any stone unturned in order to put up impressive performances in all our games even as my team is not yet 100% ready.
“We have since put behind us the opening day win over Rivers United. We are focused on the next match which is equally big. The good thing is that my boys are in high spirits and determined to keep winning.
“I, therefore, want to assure the government and people of Benue State as well as our teeming fans across the country of our readiness to do them proud in this tournament.”
Dogo, however, reiterated that Lobi Stars are still a work in progress as the former ABS, Nasarawa United and Sunshine Stars coach said he is still fine-tuning the squad.
