Player of Eko Football team, representing team Lagos at the National Sports Festival, Aregbe Lookman Obafemi has stated his dream is to become one of the greatest footballers the game has ever seen.
Lookman Obafemi, who will be looking to guide his Lagos Football team to success in Benin, when the Event commences on February 14th, admitted his desires to be one of the greatest in World football.
In an exclusive Interview with Sports247, the passionate Footballer, who is a graduate of Business Administration at Caleb University opened up about his journey to football, what motivated him and how he combined his Education with playing football. He also spoke about the National Sports Festival, as he hopes to help his team to succeed in Benin, Edo State.
*You are a graduate, what is that thing that motivated you to football? and tell us your educational background
I am a student of Caleb University and I am a graduate, but my football passion came from when I was a little boy. I really love playing football but I didn’t allow it to disturb my education because education is very important. I am done with it now, and ready to focus on my football.
*What position do you play in the team?
I play as an attacker, I play the right-wing attack position (7).
*What is your vision and what is your dream as a footballer?
My dream is to become the greatest footballer in history and my dream is also to play for Chelsea FC of England.
*What are you doing to actualizing that dream?
I train every day, I come for my team’s training, I also do my personal training, my coaches help me too. So I believe that with everything I have I know I will get there. I will never give up, till I reach my dreams.
*How prepared are you for the festival coming up in February?
I am 90 percent prepared because we are still training and the festival is still February 14th, we still have some time to prepare for it.
*How Often do you put this in your personal training you talked about?
I even do my personal training more than the training we do in the team. My personal training is very much important to me because it helps me to improve. Basically, if I see that I have made some mistakes in the team training, I just go back to the personal training to adjust those mistakes, so as to become better.
*In order for you to actualize your dreams of being the greatest player in football, how often have you been able to cope with discipline and many other things which you need to deprive yourself of?
The situation in the country is not easy. But with God and belief, I will get there. I just have to keep training, it’s very important, work hard, keep my head up and pray, I believe I will get there.
*After the Sports Festival, what’s next for you?
After the festival, I hope I see myself at greater heights. God knows best for me in the future though.
*Are you targeting playing in any team in Nigeria before moving out?
If God says that, no problems, but I actually hope to move to Europe to play. That is where I know that I will be noticed the more.
*What future are you creating for yourself?
I am creating a bright and better future for myself, that is why I put more effort into training. If you look out to Ronaldo and Messi, they didn’t just wake up to become the Ronaldo and Messi that the whole world knows, they put a lot of work and effort into their training to achieve that. I am trying to do the same thing too to show the younger ones too that when I make it out of here, you too can actually make it too, if you believe in yourself and work hard.
*Do you really have the support of your parents, looking at the fact that you are a graduate of Business Administration?
Like every African Parent, most of them don’t support playing football. My Dad doesn’t support me playing football. I just had to believe in myself that one day, I will get there. I didn’t really have the support of my parents. I just have to struggle to achieve my dream.
*Who bought you your first boot?
My Mom actually bought me my first boot. She didn’t even know that it was a boot, she thought it was a normal shoe and I will always wear it to play football back then.
*What are you doing to convince your parents about what you believe is your dream?
I am actually working very hard to convince them. Because it is when you get there that they will believe you, that is what I am actually doing. It’s not easy, most especially in this country, the system here is not helping. Without support, it’s going to be very difficult. But I believe that with God on my side, I will convince them by actualizing my dreams.
