What happened to the promising Iheanacho

The fast decline of Nigeria’s golden boy winner at FIFA Under 17 World Cup in 2013 reached a new low on Monday at the Eithad. Iheanacho spurned a big chance to get Leceister City back into the game,he shoot way off the post and failed to hit the target. The miss generated frenzy reactions on social media with some jokingly accusing him of missing on purpose, others accused him of being unfit and lazy.

This was is not he first time Iheanacho has come under fire for his poor performance and fast decline.Gernot Rohr the Super Eagles coach delivered a sting criticism on Iheanacho and accused him of unseriousness and questioned his professionalism. The coach of Lecister City was quick to come to the defence of the. year old, but since then nothing has changed.

Iheanacho has scored one goal in the 30 premier league appearances this season and if their was any chance that Iheanacho will be on the plane to Egypt come June, I believe that miss on Monday night quite buried any chance of him playing in AFCON for the the first time in his career.

Iheanacho trains on the same pitch with Maddison,Gray,Barnes,Ndidi all these players have shown improvement in their games ever since they joined Lecister City and Iheanacho have not made any reasonable progress, even in the national team, the players in the attacking positions for Super Eagles have all upped their game a move that has ensured that their is no place for Iheanacho in the team.

The 22 year old has added weight, short in confidence and out of sorts. Kelechi’s decline is another pointer to the fact that talent is not enough, you need to have that inner desire and motivation to get better and he has clearly failed in all facets. The way he casually shot the ball out on Monday night sums up everything wrong with his career at the moment.

Their is redemption for Iheanacho certainly as I believe he still has a long career ahead of him, personally I struggle to see what he brings to this Leceister City side and I doubt Brendan Rodgers will still maintain the faith he had in him two months ago.

I think Iheanacho should leave Leceister City and join one of the clubs in Portugal,France or Belgium that will take the spotlight away from him. The promise Iheanacho showed four years ago is fast fading and the onus lies solely on Iheanacho to regain that promise and revive a once promising career
