Nigeria National League side Vandrezzer Football Club and an amateur side, Messiah FC of Ikeja would slug it out in the quarter-final of the ongoing Winners Golden Bet Lagos State Challenge Cup.
All quarter-final matches would hold on Saturday at Strong Tower Academy football pitch, Ikorodu
Vandrezzer managed to beat 36 Lion Football Club 7-6 in the round of 16 of the competition on penalty shootout after barren draw at the regulation time on Wednesday at Alade Sports center, Ipaja Command, Alimosho.
Messiah also defeated May FC 4-3 in a penalty shootout after one goal apiece at the regulation time to set up a quarter-final match against Vandrezzer FC.
Dannaz beat FC Robo Warrior 2-0 to face winners between Box To Box and Spartan FC. Defending champions, Smart City walloped Business Atlantic 3-0 to set up a quarter-final match against the premier club, MFM
Reacting to Messiah’s victory, Technical Director of the club, Anthony Ushurhe has commended his players for coming back to get the equalizer in the second half of the game. He however expressed confidence that his team would go far in the competition saying that he is not afraid to play against Vandrezzer FC in the quarter-final stage.
“We are happy that we qualified for the quarter-final. My boys tried their best against May FC and we got the victory at the end of the day. We are playing against Vandrezzer in our next match and it is going to be a tough match. I watched our opponents while playing and I know the areas we would work on to avoid defeat,” he said.
