Chairman of 36 Lion Football Club, Alhaji Limaeed Gafar has admitted that Glorious Day gave his team a tough time before they could win them through a penalty shootout in the ongoing round of 32 Winners Golden Bet Lagos State Challenge Cup.
36 Lion defeated Glorious day FC 6-5 on Wednesday on penalty shootout after barren draw at the regulation time in an encounter watched by the appreciable crowd at Epe centre.
Gafar in a chat with our correspondent after the pulsating encounter commended their opponents for their brilliant performance against them throughout the tie.
He said his team would have won the game at the regulation time but noted that the Glorious Day goalie was delighted to watch as he saved many scoring chances which dragged the game to a penalty shootout.
“It was a tough match for us because our opponents almost sent us parking. It was a tactical game for both teams because our opponents did everything to stop us. I thank God that we came out victorious in a penalty shootout, “he said.
The sports administrator also commended his players and coaching crew for the hard-fought victory saying that all the players and coaches did a good job. He also charged them not to rest on their oars and reminded them to remain focused because they still have a long way to go in the competition.
“ The coaching crew and players have done well to progress to the next stage of the competition. They should also be reminded that the journey is still far and they should remain focused and prayerful in their subsequent matches. We have a target and we need to achieve our target because we can begin to celebrate,” he said.
Gafar however commended members of the Lagos State Football Association for organizing a successful ongoing Lagos FA Cup. He said the association deserves applause in the area of officiating, organization and security aspects of the competition.
The action continues on Friday as Divine Praise battles Jo Sportyne, while May FC tackles Amazing Grace. On Saturday, Box To Box face Real Sapphire at Odion Ighalo stadium, Ajegunle, Young Stars tackle Dosu Joseph at Epe centre, while Odic FC keep a date with Nath Boys by 3 pm AT Epe centre.
