The President of Nigeria Basketball Federation Engr. Ahmadu Musa Kida, has expressed the Federation’s satisfaction with the performances of the Nigeria U18 female national basketball team, the J’Tigress, despite losing to Mali 76-56 in the final match of the FIBA Africa U18 World Cup qualifying tournament in South Africa.
In his message to the girls, he praised them for their bravery, gallantry and determination to get to the final of the tournament, while also commending the national male U18 basketball team, the J’Tigers, for putting up a sterling performance during the tournament, despite the unfortunate challenges it faced with the South African High Commission, which led to their very late arrival to the tournament, that sagged the morale of the boys.

“We are indeed delighted with your performances in the tournament and will build on these successes in the coming years. You gave your very best in all your matches. And we are very proud of you all, as we are sure that you all are destined for greatness in your careers,” Kida stated.
“I want to also say a big thank you and well done to Coach Juliana Negedu and the assistants, including the members of the delegation for the good work you did for our dear nation out there in South Africa, despite the difficult circumstances” he added.
Kida went on to thank the Honourable Minister and the Sports Ministry for their unending support to the Federation, and urged on the need for early and adequate preparations for the girls, ahead of the FIBA U-18 World Cup, in Czech, in 2025, to enable them to do well at the World Cup.
