Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Jose Peseiro has reiterated that the team is focused on taking each game at a time and is ready to face whichever team is in front of them with full motivation.
The news that Sao Tome and Principe have retained their spot in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers ahead of Mauritius who had to take the spot before filtered around this morning.
In a statement released by the NFF via its media department, the Super Eagles gaffer affirmed that the Eagles are focused and not concerned about whatever opponents they face.
“We are focused on the friendly game with Ecuador. It is neither here nor there. We play whoever is in front of us,”
Recall that São Tomé and Principle were initially included in the Group A setup for the 2023 AFCON Qualifiers but were later kicked out of the group and replaced by Mauritius after CAF’s disciplinary committee sided with the Mauritius Football Association on a case with was brought forward against São Tomé and Principle that it fielded an ineligible player because his PCR test dated more than 72 hours before the match while according to the protocol, the tests must date from 48 hours.
However, on Wednesday, CAF’s Appeal Board has now overturned its own earlier decision that Sao Tome had fielded an ineligible player during their preliminary round tie against Les Dodos and restored the country into the qualification round.
The latest development means the Central African island country will now join the Super Eagles of Nigeria, the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone, and the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau in Group A.
