Victor Osimhen hopes that Nigeria can build on their AFCON qualifiers momentum after the 10-0 thrashing of São Tomé and Principe at the Adrar Stadium in Morocco.
Osimhen bagged four goals in the 10-0 demolition of the Central Africans on Monday. Moses Simon, Terem Moffi (2), Peter Etebo, Ademola Lookman, and Emmanuel Dennis were all among the goals.
The Super Eagles have now recorded their second Group A win in a row following the 2-1 defeat of Sierra Leone on Thursday and are top of the standings with six points from two games.
“First of all, I want to say congratulations to the entire team and also a big kudos to the coach for all the instructions he gave us,” Osimhen said after the game.
“I believe we carry out 80 to 90 percent of them and of course, I am happy to score four goals and I am happy for my other teammates that got their first goals as well. The likes of Ademola Lookman, Terem Moffi, and Emmanuel Dennis.
“There is a big solidarity in the team and this is what the coach has taught us and I believe as a group we have the quality to build on this momentum,” he added.
The Napoli striker created some history with his heroics against São Tomé and Principe. He joined Elkanah Onyeali (1959) and Rashidi Yekini (1991) as the only players to score at least four goals in a game for the Super Eagles.
Osimhen now tops the goal-scoring charts of the qualifiers with 5 goals in two games. The 23-year-old has 15 total goals in 22 caps for Nigeria. Jose Peseiro’s men will continue their campaign against Guinea-Bissau in September.
