After her team’s 1-0 victory over Dream Stars in Match Day two (2) of the 2020/2021 NWFL Premiership season, Captain of Edo Queens, Glory Ogbonna has admitted that she and her teammate are aiming to qualify for the Female CAF Championship.
Edo Queens who won their first game of the NWFL season defeated Dream Stars 1-0 in their second league game of the season to make it two wins from two games, so far.
In an interview with Sports 247, Edo Queen Captain has admitted that even though the league is just starting, with hard work and concentration, come the end of the season, they want to make it to the CAF Championship.
“I feel great for the result, we still have more games to go, this is just the second game, we still have a lot of work to do, with hard work and concentration, we will get there. We know our aim this season, which is the CAF Championship and with the dedication and hard work we have in the team, we believe we can make it.
When being asked if she and her teammates are being faced with pressure after their two wins from two games in the league, as all eyes are now on them to continue the momentum.
She said, “Well, since there is victory now, I don’t think there is pressure, because the game is over. We look up to another game (at home) which is against Rivers Angels, we believe we are still going to prove ourselves at home in front of our fans.
Glory Ogbonna while still speaking admitted that the reason for their victory over Dream Stars was due to their style of playing to their strength and not to the strength of their opponent.
“When you are in the field of play, you don’t underrate anyone, we are able to show the stuff we are made of by being able to calm the ball as much as possible, that is trying to make sure that we don’t play to their own tune, that is what made us to win this game. If we followed their pattern, I think it would have been another different result, but for the experience, we put in, that’s what gave us the victory”.
The Experienced captain also admitted that Chioma Wogu will be highly missed in their next game after she was sent off against Dream Stars in Match Day 2 of the season, but other players are always available to fill in her vacuum.
“We are going to miss her, it’s football, a tree cannot make a forest, she has a red card now and will not play the next match. We still have a lot of players that can be up there and make a good impact. So we still know how to go about it”, She added.
Edo Queens will play host to Rivers Angels in Match Day 3 of the 2020/2021 NWFL Premiership season.
