Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) Technical Adviser, Gbenga Ogunbote, has admitted that his team paid the ultimate price for failing to manage their two-goal lead against El-Kanemi Warriors in their matchday 31 clash on Wednesday.
The Oluyole Warriors looked set for a crucial away victory in Maiduguri but allowed their hosts to claw back, forcing a disappointing 2-2 draw. Speaking after the game, Ogunbote lamented his side’s inability to maintain control.
“We give glory to God for the one point secured on the road, but as far as I am concerned, this is two points lost. We didn’t manage the lead; we surrendered it and paid a big price for it,” he said.
Despite the setback, Ogunbote dismissed suggestions that the weather played a role in the team’s struggles. “The second half was a bit better. It wasn’t about the weather; we just couldn’t manage the lead,” he explained.
What This Means for 3SC’s Season
The result leaves 3SC in a tough position as they chase their season objectives. With only seven games remaining, every point counts, and Ogunbote knows his side must respond quickly.
“We have seven games to determine the dream, so let’s see what we will get out of it,” the coach added.
With pressure mounting, 3SC will need to regroup and refocus as they prepare for their next fixture, knowing that any more slip-ups could derail their ambitions.
