With just one match left to go, Heartland look destined to be relegated after going down to Niger Tornadoes 2-1 on match day 37.
Nnamdi Egbujua thought he had scored the match winner for the Naze millionaires when he netted in the 85th minute only Ifeanyi Okoye to reply with a brace in the 86th and additional time to twist plot of the game.
The result leaves Heartland stuck in 19th position till the final day of the season as they continue to struggle for survival in the league.
Heartland head coach, Erasmus Onuh reacted to the loss, the team’s continuous struggle to remain in the top flight and his future with the club saying, “we have done our best.”
“That is the result, I don’t have any other way to react than to say that is the result, we played but it didn’t happen. We lost, we lost due to carelessness.”

Heartland have a huge task on the last day of the season with continental hopefuls, Kwara United who they have only lost to once in seven meetings visiting Owerri.
Kwara United sitting 4th on the table, a point behind third placed Remo Stars need three points to ensure they finish in third position to get to the continent but Heartland will be pursuing three points and lots of goals to ensure their NPFL status remains intact.
Heartland’s hostage of Kwara United on the final day will be one of the mouth watery clashes to watch out for on the final day of the season.
