The Chairman of Youths Sports Federation of Nigeria Imo state chapter, Mr Sunny Ndubuisi Opara has given update on the level of renovation progress so far of the YSFON sports center at the old stadium Tetlow road Owerri.
Opara revealed this to YSFON media during an interactive session ahead of the preparations for the YSFON holiday programs coming up in August 2023.
The basketball court has taken a new shape, while a new table tennis board has been put in place to replace the old and dilapidated one. The YSFON office, gym house and other buildings that was seriously damaged by rain storm earlier this year has been fixed and replaced with new ones while the buildings, its environs has been massively repainted with YSFON colour and so many other renovations massively going on at the center.
In a media pally with newsmen ahead of the upcoming YSFON holiday program, Opara said;
“ It has not been easy, it is YSFON office and YSFON sporting playing ground, where we have our snooker board, table tennis, basketball pitch and so on.
Those are the things we started with, within the period of 10 years and above, a lot of them went dilapidated, more especially when we had that rain storm attack.
By the special grace of God, we are working on sourcing for money, at least to make sure that those facilities used in the building are the first things we should give give massive attention.
Few people came to our aid knowing the importance of what this means to the state. we have gone about 60 percent we can’t wait till we get 100 percent.
First we are running two programmes, which will start on the 8th of August and if we don’t put these things in order, we cannot get it right, we also have mock champion’s league and this youth games which comprises of table tennis, basketball, snooker and football.
Before we do such things, we have to make things work.
Some of my personal friends have supported this movement, but for the resources.
We have toiled to get up to 60 percent.
Immediately after the youth games, we would switch into our premier program which is the YSFON mock champions league.
All the 27 local government chairmen has been dissolved, what we have now is caretakers with their secretaries.
We would afterwards focus on the local government selection process in accordance with the rules of the ruling party which is APC and we are hoping to meet his excellency the executive Governor of Imo state Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma through our mentor and Patron Honourable Macdonald Ebere in-order to help us (YSFON) bounce back.
Before now Imo state YSFON has been the best and the most vibrant in the entire southeast, we don’t want to go down” Opara concluded.
Imo YSFON holiday program has been scheduled to begin August 8 and will roll for one week. Sales of participation form is on while the sales of forms will end next week.
