Sunshine Stars FC star player, Fuad Ekelojuoti has opened up on his side’s struggles in the Nigerian Professional Football League last season.
After a strong early-season showing, Sunshine Stars’ form nosedive saw the team locked in a relegation dogfight in the second half of the season.
The Akure Gunners managed to beat the drop though, finishing just a place and four points above the relegation zone
Reflecting on the difficult season, Sunshine Stars winger Ekelojuoti said:
“Let me say it has been predestined to happen like that because we had a good outing from the beginning of the season. But in the long run, we had some setbacks pertaining to funds and you know if you are not having funds it makes it difficult for a team to progress.
“From week one to nine we were like third on the log and eventually we struggled to be up there. We thank God that in the long run, we tried to escape the drop.”
Quizzed on the targets for the next season, the 26-years-old wasn’t getting ahead of himself. He said: “I can’t really say for now because the season has not commenced and we are trying to push and make something out of what we have done before. So now we want to do something bigger than what we have done.”
