Nigeria handball senior national team, the Golden Arrows lost to 10 time winners of the African championships, Tunisia at the 25th African Championship.
The Golden Arrows fell 30-18 to the Tunisians in their first game of the tournament that is being played in Egypt.
The first half had ended with just one point separating both sides as it ended 14-13 to the Tunisians but the Golden Arrows started misfiring their arrows in the second half that gave the Tunisians the opportunity to pounce on them.
Head coach of the Golden Arrows, Coach Rafiu Salami in his reaction to the loss said: “we didn’t take our chances and allowed incessant turnovers which made the Tunisians to be ahead in large period of the match.”
“This is our first real big test apart from the clubs based in Abuja, it was not going to be an easy task. They are record holders,” he bemoaned.
The Nigerians will now hope to look past their poor outing and get to the task at hand as they face Cape Verde tomorrow.
“We will be better tomorrow against Cape Verde. We will play better.”
A place in the quarter finals is at stake and a win against Cape Verde can help the Golden Arrows qualify for the quarter finals.
The best finish of the team at the Handball African Championship was a 4th place finish in 1998.
