After the conclusion of the WAFU B U20 Men’s Football, the region is ready to host the first leg Zonal Qualifiers of the third edition of the CAF African Schools Football Championships next month, Sports247 reports.
Following the draw which was held in Lomé, Togo on Wednesday, 30 October, Niger is now preparing to welcome the six participating nations for the qualifiers set to take place in Niamey between 18 – 24 November 2024.
WAFU B President, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, alongside Togolese Football Federation President, Kossi Guy Akpovy were some of the dignitaries who were in attendance at the draw on Wednesday.
A total of six nations will partake in both the boys and girls divisions of the tournament, where each nation will contest the honours of being crowned champions of their respective zone and secure a place at the CAF African Schools Football Championship Finals set to take place in 2025.
Group A will see the hosts Niger taking on Burkina Faso and Ghana, while former champions, Benin headline a Group B consisting of Cote d’Ivoire as well as Nigeria.
The top two finishers in both groups will proceed to the finals that will then determine the crowning of the champions as well as a ticket to the CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals next year.
The draw was mirrored in both the boys and girls divisions, resulting in both draw outcomes being exactly the same for both divisions.
