Super Falconets Hopeful, Edidong Ekong believes the senior national team have what it takes to beat Burundi this night at the ongoing Women Africa Cup of Nations taking place in Morocco.
The Senior Women National team lost their opening group C match against title rivals, Bayana Bayana of South Africa by 2 goals to one and bounced back with 2-0 win over Bostwana in the second match.
Ekong, who plays for Wazan in the Moroccan second division, said the Super Falcons must raise their game as the tournament progresses.
The former striker of Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens said it’s too early to predict that the Super Falcons will win 10th AWCON title in Morocco but remained confident that they can reach the semifinals and qualify for the 2023 FIFA Womens World Cup.
“I saw our team against Botswana and I was impressed with their performance.I am optimistic that Falcons would beat Burundi and reach the semi final stage,”she said.
Ekong added that victory over Burundi will ensure Super Falcons finished second in the group and guarantee a quarterfinals tie against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon.
While hoping to see Nigeria play Morocco in the final, Ekong said the hosts will have support of their fans which will make it tough for Nigeria.
The four semi-finalists at the ongoing 2022 AWCON will qualify for the World Cup. There will be playoff matches to determine fifth and sixth place teams that will take part in the World Cup qualifying playoff tournament.
