After seeing her team defeat Nigeria’s Super Falcons yet again, Bayana Bayana coach Desiree Ellis has boasted that her tactics worked to perfection against the Nigerians.
Goals from Jermaine Seoposenwe in the 60th minute and Hildah Magaia in the 62nd minute gave the South Africans the comfortable lead before Rasheedat Ajibade halved the deficit in additional time.
This was the Falcons’ second consecutive loss to South Africa in the WAFCON group stages and second consecutive loss in all competitions.
Boasting at the press conference after the game, Ellis said: “We forced them to play long balls and we knew we can force them to make mistakes at the back which they did, the players deliver our plans.”
“We have to focus, we are done with this game and we have to focus on our objectives for the tournament,” she admonished.
The Bayana Bayana have finished second on five different occasions, the first in 1995 and the latest in 2018 when they lost to the Super Falcons in the finals on penalties.
The South African Football Association, SAFA motivated the team with a cash prize of 30,000 USD for each player if they win the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Up next for the South Africans will be Burundi on Thursday.
