The 14th Women Africa Cup of Nations currently on going in Morocco has got to its latter stages.
The tournament played in the cities of Rabat and Casablanca has produced Africa’s four representatives for the 2023 Women’s World Cup to be played in New Zealand and Australia.
While different rivalry abd scores are being settled on the pitch, the race for the Golden boots has just began as two players are locked horns on 3 goals.
Super Falcons’ star and lead striker, Rasheedat Ajibade is joint highest goal scorer of tournament alongside with Atlas Lioness’ Ghizlane Chebbak.
Both players are stuck on three goals after four matches have been played in the tournament.
Ajibade first netted her first of the tournament in the 2-1 loss against South Africa after she scored Nigeria’s consolation in the game.
The goal came late on in additional time after an attempt by Onome Ebi has fallen kindly for her. Ajibade’s second was from the penalty spot against Burundi in the Falcons third game of the tournament.
She further assisted twice in the Burundi thrashing as she helped Nigeria to a 4-0 win.
Her third will be the match winner against long standing rivals, Cameroon as her powerful header condemned the Indomitable Lioness out of the competition.
Meanwhile Ajibade is not the only Nigerian in the race as Uchenna Kanu is also not far away.
Kanu scored a brace against Burundi to be ranked joint second highest goal scorer with 9 others.
A goal each for Peace Efih and Christy Ucheibe and Ifeoma Onumunu completes the list of Nigerians on the scorers chart.
Ajibade alongside her three goals has also bagged 2 assists making a total of 5 goals contribution for the Super Falcons.
Ajibade and Morocco’s Chebbak will settle the scores when both clash in the semifinals on Monday.
