National volleyball coach, Francis Imoudu has thanked the federation’s board and Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) president, Engineer Habu Gumel for making it possible that the country will senbd a team to this year’s Katara Beach Volleyball Cup from this Tuesday to Saturday.
Sports247.ng gathered that Hilray Simon and Obayemi Ogunshina with represent the country at the competition in Qatar, for which Imoudu thanked Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) for getting a wild card from Qatar Volleyball Association for the players to compete.
Imoudu pointed out that Nigeria is the only Africa team invited for the four-star event the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), in which top beach volleyball players will star at Katara Amphitheater, Qatar.
Imoudu promised that the players will do their best to justify the efforts of the NVBF and their immediate past president, Gumel.
He assured the body’s current president, Engineer Musa Nimrod that the players will do well to score points for global ratings by FIVB.
Imoudu said: “Nigeria has never participated in an FIVB Beach Tour, this is the first time and we are the only Africa team in over 40 countries.
“What a privilege for the boys, all due to the positive hand work of the NVBF president and Engineer Habu Gumel who sits on the FIVB board.
“It is a rare privilege for Nigeria to be the only African side at this four star championship.
“This invitational championship will also prepare the boys for the busy 2019 calendar.”
