Vincent Ugwoke Smashes Personal Best with 62.72m Discus Throw at South Florida Invitational

Vincent Ugwoke delivered a sensational performance at the South Florida Invitational, launching a massive throw of 62.72m to claim gold in the men’s Discus Throw and set a new personal best.

The 24-year-old Nigerian athlete stunned the field with his record-breaking effort, which now stands as the longest throw by a Nigerian discus thrower in over a decade — just shy of Stephen Mozia’s 62.80m mark set in 2014.

Ugwoke’s impressive throw saw him finish well ahead of American contender Quentin Peterson, who settled for second place with a best of 60.30m.

This victory marks a significant milestone in Ugwoke’s career, reinforcing his status as a rising force in the discipline and raising hopes of a potential national record in the near future.

Speaking after the event, Ugwoke expressed gratitude for the support of his team and fans. “I’ve been working hard for a moment like this,” he said. “To come out here and get a PB — and to do it with the Nigerian flag on my back — is a dream come true.”

His performance is likely to put him firmly in the conversation for international selection ahead of major championships, including the African Games and the 2025 World Athletics Championships.
