La Liga side Villarreal have strengthened their defensive ranks with the acquisition of Nigerian center-back Ekerette Udom, who joins Villarreal B from Rivers United.

The transfer was confirmed through Villarreal’s official channels, emphasizing Udom’s arrival as a key addition to the club’s reserve team.

Standing tall at 1.98 meters, Udom brings a commanding aerial presence and versatility to Villarreal B, as he is capable of playing both as a center-back and a holding midfielder.

“Villarreal CF has reached an agreement with Rivers United for the transfer of young defender Ekerette Udom, who joins Villarreal B’s ranks,” read the club’s statement.

Udom’s standout performances in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and his contributions to Rivers United’s CAF Confederation Cup campaign attracted the attention of European scouts, paving the way for his move to Spain.

The 22-year-old has also played for Nigerian clubs such as Nasarawa United and Sunshine Stars, building valuable experience that has prepared him for this next step in his career.

At Villarreal B, Udom will compete in Spain’s Primera Federación – Group 2, with hopes of developing his talents further and potentially securing a spot in the senior squad. Villarreal B plays its home matches at the 23,008-seat Estadio de la Cerámica, where Udom will look to impress.
