Villarreal are stepping up their pursuit of Umar Sadiq, with the club manager Unai Emery keen on adding the Nigerian international to his striking options for next season, reports Sports247.
Senegalese star Boulaye Dia is pushing to leave Villarreal this summer. The striker has been linked with a loan move to Salernitana in Serie A, and the Yellow Submarine wants to replace him with Sadiq.
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Valencia and Real Sociedad are also keeping a close eye on Sadiq’s situation, but Villarreal has shown the most interest thus far.
“Villarreal are pushing to sign Umar Sadiq in case Dia will join Salernitana on loan with a buy option. Unai Emery, keen on signing Sadiq. Timing will be key as other clubs are following Sadiq, Valencia and Real Sociedad included.” Romano tweeted.
Sadiq was initially listed as a potential replacement by Villarreal for Arnaut Danjuma, who recently came very close to joining West Ham United before the deal fell through.
Sadiq stated in a recent interview that he would like to continue at U.D Almeria for the foreseeable future as he wants to play in La Liga with the club he helped gain promotion from the Spanish second tier last season.
The 25-year-old has scored 41 goals in 81 appearances for the club he joined in 2020. He has three years left on his contract with Rojiblancos.
