Another brace from Azeez Oseni which took his tally so far to six and fine goal off the boot of top striker, Adeleke Otasanya, was all Buruj Sports Academy need to top their group in the youth category of the 2019 English International Super Cup as they recorded another impressive 3-2 win over Rochdale AFC on Friday morning.
The game itself was full of drama following the so many glaring chances that were missed by the unusually nervy Buruj Boys and some superlative saves by the Rochdale goalkeeper.
And while it seemed the final group game in the youth category will end in another 2-2 draw, the goal arrived after the ever mesmerising Azeez took on the entire defence line of the English side in a solo run before producing the final touch which the hitherto excellent goalie had no answer to with what was the last kick of the entire game.
It was the Buruj Boys who took the lead on two occasions in the first half but the Rochdale Boys responded to tie the game in the first stanza.
The defending champions from Nigeria, however, took over the initiative in the second half but so many waves of attacking move ended up with either an incredible save from the goalkeeper, the cross-bar or poor final touch from the which took the game all the way.
Action resumes on Saturday in the Men’s Open Category as Buruj Sports Academy will confront Saddlers FC in the first game in that category.
And while reacting on the second-day performance of the boys, the CEO of the academy Salaudeen Waheed expressed deep delight that things are moving in the right direction, saying the boys have been well motivated to go all the way.
He also vowed that the team will defend the titles they won last year to have something to dedicate some distinguished Nigerians like Rev. Mother Esther Abimbola Ajayi, who has stood solidly behind the team and the management.
